Asda Proves its Pick of the Bunch for Fresh Produce PDF Print E-mail

Surveying the fresh parsnip harvest from Gilfresh Produce is David Quigg from Asda , Billy Clelland from Asda and Ivan McKee and David Morrow from Gilfresh Produce.
Asda customers will be amongst the first to enjoy this season’s fresh local carrots and parsnips, thanks to the warm, rainy days and the hard work of Gilfresh Produce and its farmers. Gilfresh is set to supply approximately 750,000 individual carrots and parsnips to Asda NI each month, fresh from local fields to Asda shelves within 24 hours of being harvested.

David Quigg, Asda Northern Ireland buyer, said: “This early crop is deliciously sweet and crunchy thanks to the great growing conditions of late. It’s great testament to the dedication and seamless supply chain capabilities of Gilfresh that they have been able to harvest and deliver the vegetables to our 15 Asda stores across NI so quickly.”

“Since we arrived in 2005, we have been working closely with farmers to offer our customers the best of locally sourced produce- as fresh and as early as possible.”
David Morrow, Gilfresh Produce commercial manager, said: “We’ve had farmers out in the field checking the crop for the last few weeks, waiting for the optimum time to harvest – and the results have been fantastic.”
“We enjoy a great relationship with Asda, supplying it with a range of fresh vegetables including our new season beetroot and curly kale which we recently added to our existing range. We hope to grow and develop this relationship over the coming years”
The first of the new season crop is on sale in all of Asda’s 15 stores throughout Northern Ireland.
